Artist Statement
My work explores how memory and trauma move through the body, shaping how we experience ourselves and the world around us. I’m interested in how we piece memories together to create story and meaning, and how our past can surface not as a clear narrative, but through learned beliefs and somatic responses.
Using acrylic on raw canvas, I create organic textures that reflect the way experience shapes our internal landscape over time, like water slowly shaping stone. Stitching fragments together mirrors the process of reconstructing memory into understanding. The work moves between micro and macro scales, suggesting cellular systems, veins, and organic structures, while also echoing broader environments such as terrain, atmosphere, and cosmic space.

Bio
Cassidy Waring is a Vancouver-based abstract artist. She spent much of her creative career as a musician and mental health advocate, using songwriting and performance to process difficult emotions and connect with others. This work led her to become the subject and co-producer of the documentary Hearse Chasing, which follows her as she writes her latest album and returns to her hometown of Calgary to have honest conversations with people from her past. In the film, she reflects on her experiences with Complex PTSD and the impact of her mother’s death, with the goal of reducing stigma around mental health and raising awareness about CPTSD.
Following this chapter, Cassidy reconnected with her inner child through painting. What began as an intuitive practice quickly evolved into a new creative language for exploring emotion, memory, and identity. Her work is driven by a desire to create pieces where others can recognize something of their own story, moments that feel strangely familiar and deeply personal. Each piece is unique, born from an intuitive, organic process, with no two ever alike.
Cassidy offers a limited number of commissioned works each year, collaborating closely with select collectors to transform personal narratives into intimate, one-of-a-kind paintings.
